First Basin Café Bistro has been part of Launceston life for years — but since new management took over in May 2025, it’s had a fresh burst of energy. We’re focused on better food, faster service and a genuine local welcome, whether you’re here every morning for a flat white or stopping by after a swim. Right in the heart of Cataract Gorge Reserve, the café sits just steps from the playground and swimming pool, making it the perfect stop for families, walkers and anyone enjoying a day out.
We serve breakfast, lunch, great coffee, ice cream and drinks, all made for easy eating on the deck, on the grass or on the go. The café is fully licensed, so you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cold beer with your meal, or grab a coffee to take with you on your walk through the Gorge.
